Menubar App
Quick snippet access from any application.
Menubar App
SnipperApp 3 includes a menubar companion that lives in your Mac's menu bar, giving you instant access to your snippets from any application without switching windows.
Opening the Menubar
Global Hotkey
Press Cmd+Shift+V (default) to toggle the menubar panel from anywhere on your Mac. This works regardless of which application is in the foreground.
You can customize this hotkey in Settings > Menubar.
Menu Bar Icon
Click the SnipperApp icon in the menu bar to open the panel. The icon is always visible when SnipperApp 3 is running.
Browsing Snippets
When the menubar panel opens, you see:
- Search bar at the top for quick filtering.
- Recent snippets -- Your most recently accessed or created snippets.
- Favorites -- Snippets marked as favorites are prominently displayed.
- Folder browser -- Navigate your folder hierarchy to find specific snippets.
Type in the search bar to instantly filter snippets by title, content, or tags.
Copying Snippets
The primary purpose of the menubar is to quickly copy snippet content to your clipboard for pasting into your current application.
Click Actions
The menubar supports configurable click actions, letting you customize what happens when you interact with a snippet:
| Action | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Click | The default action. Configurable in Settings (see below). |
| Option+Click | Secondary action. Configurable in Settings. |
| Cmd+Click | Tertiary action. Configurable in Settings. |
Configurable Actions
In Settings > Menubar, you can assign each click modifier to one of these actions:
- Copy to clipboard -- Copies the snippet content to the clipboard and closes the menubar.
- Copy and paste -- Copies the snippet and automatically pastes it into the frontmost application.
- Open in editor -- Opens the snippet in the main SnipperApp window for editing.
- Preview -- Displays the snippet content in the hover preview pane.
The default configuration is:
- Click -- Copy to clipboard
- Option+Click -- Copy and paste
- Cmd+Click -- Open in editor
Hover Preview Pane
When you hover over a snippet in the menubar list, a preview pane appears showing:
- The full snippet content with syntax highlighting.
- The snippet's language, folder, and tags.
- The creation and last-modified dates.
The preview pane lets you verify you are selecting the correct snippet before copying it. It appears after a brief hover delay and disappears when you move your mouse away.
Menubar Search
The search bar at the top of the menubar panel supports:
- Title search -- Matches snippet titles.
- Content search -- Matches text within snippet content.
- Tag search -- Type a tag name to filter by tags.
Search results update in real time as you type, showing the most relevant matches first.
